CPS Energy has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to acquire up to 600 megawatts (MW) of additional solar energy through one or more Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).Â
CPS Energy ranks number one in Texas for contracted solar generation and plans to announce another battery storage RFP by the end of the year. Â
This latest RFP supports CPSâ Vision 2027 generation plan, which seeks to provide affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy to its customers in the greater San Antonio area.Â
The utility expects it will have over 1,600 MW of solar generation capacity upon completion of the RFP that is either operational or under contract; it currently has over 1,000 MW of operational solar capacity.Â
âEvery megawatt counts in powering San Antonio, one of the fastest growing regions across the country,â said Rudy D. Garza, President and CEO of CPS Energy, in a statement. âWe are the number one purchaser of solar energy in the state of Texas. Iâm grateful for our dedicated teams and their efforts to grow our use of solar to fulfill CPS Energyâs Vision 2027 strategic plan.âÂ
Vision 2027 aligns with CPS Energyâs commitment to the City of San Antonioâs Climate Action & Adaptation Plan (CAAP) that seeks to become carbon neutral by 2050.Â
Interested bidders may submit proposals for the RFP by Thursday, January 8, 2026.Â
