EnergyHub, GM Energy Partnership to Expand Utility Program Access for Consumers

Grid-edge flexibility solutions provider EnergyHub has partnered with General Motors’ GM Energy to integrate the automaker’s EVs and home energy storage solutions into EnergyHub’s network of utility and market programs.

The collaboration will enable Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac EV drivers, as well as owners of GM Energy’s PowerBank home battery system, to take part in EnergyHub-managed utility programs. These programs allow customers to earn financial incentives while bolstering grid reliability and lowering the cost of energy in their communities.

They will also be able to participate in select EnergyHub programs through their local utility. The partnership enables smart or managed charging functionality that optimizes charging schedules, supporting bulk and distribution grid stability while retaining customer mobility preferences.

GM’s PowerBank will be able to provide backup power to its customers, as well as the grid during peak times of demand.

EnergyHub’s EV-managed charging programs will be delivered through its Edge Distributed Energy Resource Management (DERMS) platform, and its capabilities will enable peak demand management and aid efforts that prevent EVs and other DERs from overloading local distribution infrastructure.

“Our partnership with GM is a significant step forward in expanding the reach and impact of our utility clients’ EV and stationary storage program. Direct integrations with automakers like GM allow us to create the best possible experience for customers while ensuring utilities are prepared for the increasing demand from electric vehicles and distributed energy resources,” said Jeff Huron, Senior Manager, EV Strategy and Business Development at EnergyHub, in a statement.
