EDF power solutions North America and El Paso Electric (EPE) have announced the Milagro Solar+Storage project is now operational.
The 150 MW solar project features a 75 MWac/4-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) and will supply clean energy to EPE under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
It is the second solar facility EPE and EDF power solutions have partnered on; the 10 MW Chihuahuan Desert solar facility in San Elizario, Texas became operational in March 2025.
Located on private land in Doña County, New Mexico, the project will store electricity during peak hours for solar generation in a series of batteries. The energy will then be dispatched when needed to help manage demand surges.
During construction, the project created approximately 200 jobs with 100 positions filled by New Mexico residents. It is expected to generate around $18 million in tax revenue for the county and its school districts supported under the Industrial Revenue Bond (IRB) throughout its life.
The Milagro Solar+Storage project is expected to produce enough reliable and affordable energy for approximately 60,000 average New Mexico homes.
“The start of commercial operations at the Milagro Solar+Storage project marks a significant step for our region,” shared Dave Hawkins, Vice President of System Planning and Operations Support for El Paso Electric, in a statement. “It reflects our shared commitment to a cleaner, more resilient energy future – strengthening grid reliability and ensuring dependable service for our customers, even as energy demands evolve. We extend our sincere thanks to EDF power solutions for their leadership and partnership in bringing this transformative project to life.”
