The New York State Energy Planning Board released a draft State Energy Plan outlining its objectives through 2040, complete with recommendations for meeting the state’s energy needs of the future.
The plans include ambitous targets for utility-scale and distributed solar and energy projects.
Over the next 15 years, the state aims to reach 35 GW of solar and 9 GW each of onshore wind, offshore wind, and battery storage. As it relates to storage, New York is targeting 6 GW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) by 2030 and 9.4 GW by 2040.
New York’s first Bulk Energy Storage Request for Proposals (RFP), a part of the state’s 6 GW Energy Storage Roadmap, just launched and is seeking to procure 1 GW of bulk storage capacity.
