SolMicroGrid has launched a new service in which it will buy existing solar arrays from commercial and industrial asset owners, as part of its “Array-to-Microgrid” service.
Large retailers, hospitality and restaurants, supermarkets, auto dealerships, and other types of business owners will sell a portion of their ownership of the arrays to SolMicroGrid for an upfront cash payment, while relinquising responsiblity for ongoing maintenance, repairs, and system monitoring.
In addition to managing the existing solar arrays, SolMicroGrid plans to integrate additional components like battery energy storage systems (BESS), generators, fuel cells, and advanced control systems to create complete microgrids, empowering the businesses to operate independently from the grid when needed.
By offloading their solar assets and upgrading to a full microgrid, businesses are reducing their energy costs while having access to backup power during outages. SolMicroGrid’s service provides these businesses with financial flexibility, operational simplicity, and a resilient energy solution without the day-to-day hassles of system ownership.
“There’s demand from business owners to get solar arrays off their books. They don’t want to have capital tied up in energy infrastructure, and instead, would prefer to put those resources to use in ways that drive revenue and efficiency,” said Kirk Edelman, CEO of SolMicroGrid, in a statement. “Rather than dealing with fluctuating energy prices and unpredictable maintenance expenses, through our Array-to-Microgrid service, businesses benefit from an energy-as-a-service (EaaS) agreement. This service provides predictable, stable energy costs that are typically lower than traditional utility rates.”
