Solar Games

The Solar Games is the industry’s first installer competition, tasking teams with building residential solar + storage systems live in the Intersolar & Energy Storage North America expo hall.

Competing teams are judged on installation quality, safety, speed, and more as they advance through the tournament. Even better? The winning team takes home a $10,000 cash prize—and the title of Solar Games Champion.

Interested in applying to compete in the 2026 Solar Games tournament? Please review team requirements and submit your application.

Selected install teams are eligible to receive up to $2,500 to support anticipated travel costs post-event with proof of receipt.

The Solar Games are made possible by the generosity and collaboration of our sponsors and partners.

Twende Solar

Equipment used in the Solar Games is donated to nonprofit Twende Solar for use in projects that empower under-resourced communities with renewable energy systems. Watch this video to learn more about Twende Solar’s projects.

Solar Games Updates – Exciting Changes Ahead!

We’re thrilled to announce an exciting evolution in our competition format! In response to feedback and our ongoing commitment to keeping things fresh, fair, and competitive, we are transitioning from our traditional bracket-style tournament to a point-based system.

Here’s what’s changing:

  • Instead of a single-elimination bracket, teams will now compete for the highest number of points awarded during the judging period. At the end of each round, the top teams with the highest point totals will advance to the next round.
  • Team requirements: teams that have competed two years in a row no longer have to wait two years to return to the Solar Games. If a team competes two years in a row, they must only wait one year before becoming eligible to apply again.

Why the change?
This new format gives teams more opportunities to compete, perform, and showcase their skills. The competition becomes more strategic. All teams are now competing against one another, rather than just the matchup on the other roof. For fans and spectators, this means more action, more drama, and more chances to see your favorite teams in action.

Whether you’re a potential competitor or a fan, get ready for a more intense, strategic, and exciting Solar Games!
