NextEra Energy and Google Cloud Expand Gigawatt-Scale Collaboration

NextEra Energy and Google Cloud have announced a substantial expansion in their energy and technology collaboration.

The companies will partner to develop multiple, new gigawatt (GW)-scale data center campuses along with ample generation and capacity to support operations. They will also collaborate on NextEra’s enterprise-wide digital transformation, using Google Cloud AI and infrastructure to accelerate technological innovation and AI deployment.

The first commercial product is expected to be available in the Google Cloud Marketplace by mid-2026.

Their joint approach to developing GW-scale campuses across the U.S. will fast-track site development, grid interconnection, and the supporting generation and capacity needed for continued data center growth.

Currently, NextEra and Google Cloud are developing the first three campuses and working to identify additional locations and expansion plans.

“Our partnership with Google exemplifies this very singular moment when energy and technology are becoming inextricably intertwined,” said NextEra Energy chairman and CEO John Ketchum, in a statement. “Together, we intend to build data center capacity and energy infrastructure at scale, advance cutting-edge technology and reimagine how energy companies operate. By combining NextEra Energy’s unmatched skills as America’s leading energy infrastructure builder and operator, with Google’s world-class technology expertise, we will help transform the energy sector.”

This most recent announcement builds on an existing, longstanding relationship between the two companies; to date, they have approximately 3.5 GW in operation or contracted.

Most recently, they announced the restart of the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa, followed by two long-term power purchase agreements adding 600 MW of clean energy to Oklahoma’s grid to support Google’s infrastructure.
