Engineering, construction, and project management company Bechtel has been selected by Doral Renewables to design and build the Cold CreekĀ Solar+StorageĀ projectĀ in Texas.Ā
The facilities, spanning two counties, will produce approximately 430 megawatts (MW) of clean energy with more than 850,000 solar panels. The project will also include a 340 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) to collect and store excess energy throughout the day, sending it to Texasā grid during times of peak demand.Ā
BechtelĀ will provide engineering, procurement, and construction services forĀ the facilities.Ā The Cold Creek project is expected to create over 500 jobs, as well as training opportunities for the local workforce.Ā
The project is BechtelāsĀ second with Doral Renewables and its fifthĀ utility-scale solar site in the state. The company has a growing renewables portfolio across the country, with projects at various stages of development.Ā
āThe Cold Creek project highlights the power of an all-of-the-above energy strategy,āĀ said Scott Austin, Bechtel General Manager of Renewables & Clean Power, in aĀ statement.Ā āTexas continues to lead the nation in blending traditional and renewable resources to strengthen its grid. By combining 430 MW of solar generation with 340 MWh of storage, Cold Creek will make the Texas grid stronger and more reliable for years to come. We are proud to bring Bechtelās experience to this important project and support Doral Renewablesā mission to deliver reliable, homegrown power to Texas.āĀ
Cold Creek is expected to become operational in 2028, with engineering already underway.
