Convergent Energy and Power has announced that its 2 megawatt (MW) solar system serving specialty chemicals company Nouryon’s manufacturing facility in Morris, Illinois, is now operational.
The system was built under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) between Convergent and Nouryon and will supply renewable electricity to support the site’s operations.
It is Nouryon’s first onsite solar PPA in the United States.
“The energization of this project is an important milestone for both Convergent and Nouryon,” said Johannes Rittershausen, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Convergent Energy and Power, in a statement.
He continued, “By bringing clean, locally generated solar power directly to Nouryon’s Morris facility, we are demonstrating how industrial companies can achieve meaningful sustainability progress while enhancing long-term energy certainty.”
The project supports Nouryon’s sustainability strategy by raising the share of renewable electricity used at the facility. It is expected to contribute to the company’s goal of cutting its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, compared with a 2019 baseline.
Eduardo Nardinelli, Senior Vice President, South America and Global Carbon Business Strategy, Nouryon, added, “Nouryon is pleased to see this important renewable energy project operating at our Morris, Illinois facility. We’re thrilled with this initiative. The onsite solar project supports our commitment to expanding our renewable energy footprint and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
