Emobi, HeyCharge Launch Retrofit Solution to Connect Offline EV Chargers

Emobi and HeyCharge have announced a partnership that will enable any offline EV charger to be retrofitted and directly connected to Emobi’s ecosystem.

The collaboration will combine HeyCharge’s hardware-enabled platform with Emobi’s roaming hub, which provides access to more than 140,000 chargers across over 26 U.S. and Canadian networks through a single API.

This solution brings offline chargers into one of the largest interoperability layers for fleets, automakers, and EV drivers. It will also provide support for Emobi’s cloud-based Plug & Charge offering, JustPlug™, that is compatible with both modern and legacy hardware.

Many North American EV chargers result in higher operating costs, inconsistent fleet access, and frequent authentication failures for drivers due to poor connectivity.

HeyCharge provides reliable local communication that is not internet-dependent, allowing their chargers to operate seamlessly even in low-connectivity environments like underground garages and dense urban buildings. Emobi’s roaming hub addresses network fragmentation by unifying disparate charging systems into a single accessible platform.

“This partnership addresses one of the most persistent challenges in EV charging: unreliable or offline chargers that were never designed for modern connectivity,” said Lin Sun Fa, CEO of Emobi, in a statement. “By pairing HeyCharge’s retrofit technology with Emobi’s interoperability layer and JustPlug capabilities, we’re giving operators a practical path to bring underperforming chargers online and fully integrated into the networks that fleets, automakers, and drivers rely on.”

This combined solution is particularly beneficial for property managers, fleets, and operators, as it also reduces installation complexity. For drivers, the retrofit adds the critical capabilities chargers tend to lack: accurate session tracking, energy-based billing, and real-time availability.

Chris Carde, CEO of HeyCharge, added, “Charging needs to be secured and work everywhere, not only where the internet is strong. Our patented single use security tokens and suite of technology enables chargers to operate with confidence, whether underground, in dense cities, or in areas where connectivity is limited.”
