Hanjung America Selects Indiana for First North American Manufacturing Facility

Hanjung America, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Hanjung NCS, has chosen Huntington, Indiana as the location for its first U.S.-based manufacturing facility.

The company will manufacture energy storage systems (ESS) on a newly built facility spanning 133 acres; it plans to create more than 300 new high-wage jobs during the initial construction phase. At full capacity, it expects to open up more than 440 jobs for local residents.

The tier one supplier of high-performance ESS components for Samsung SDI will supply cooling systems and enhanced direct injection fire extinguishers for container type ESS to support Stellantis and Samsung SDI’s StarPlus Energy electric vehicle battery supply chain, as well as the greater renewable energy ecosystem across Indiana.

“Hanjung America’s decision to locate its first North American manufacturing facility in Indiana is a major win for the state and for Huntington County,” said Indiana Governor Mike Braun, in a statement. “The company’s new operation will strengthen Indiana’s growing leadership in creating the next generation of energy solutions while creating hundreds of high-skill, high-paying jobs for Hoosiers and setting the stage for continued supply chain growth throughout the state.”

Following in the footsteps of soulbrain MI and Jaweon Industrial, Hanjung America is the latest company to establish operations in Indiana to support two new Stellantis and Samsing SDI gigafactories in Kokomo.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) has committed to an investment in Hanjung America of up to $4.5 million in the form of incentive-based tax credits, up to $400,000 in Hoosier Business Investment tax credits, and up to $200,000 in training grants. In return, the company has committed to creating over 500 jobs statewide.

Hanjung America will break ground in April with operations scheduled to commence in June 2027.
