Securing the Distributed Energy Grid in 2024: A Role for Owners and Operators

Jan 18 2024

1:15 PM - 2:15 PM CT

Room 33 AB

Supercharged by investment flowing from the Inflation Reduction Act, networked solar PV, energy storage, electric vehicles, and EV chargers – known collectively as Distributed Energy Resources or “DER” – will transform the U.S. electricity grid in 2024.

With this transformation comes the urgent need to secure DER networks and systems that will make up the “new grid”, and asset owners, manufacturers, and operators must gain cybersecurity competency quickly. In this session, panelists will explain why cybersecurity is essential to the DER business.

Topics include:

  • Federal and state-level regulations, including the White House National Security Strategy, NIST Cross-Sector Cybersecurity Performance Goals, FERC Order 2222, NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection, and upcoming changes to state interconnection regulations
  • Market conditions that are driving the rapid deployment of DER and EV charging networks
  • Common threats against DER assets and networks
  • Risk and mitigation strategies, including cybersecurity certification programs for manufacturers, asset owners, and operators
