The Mobile Megawatt: Unlocking EVs in the Virtual Power Plant Era

Feb 18 2026

1:15 PM - 2:15 PM PT

Conference Room 33ABC

Electric vehicles are quickly becoming the largest underutilized distributed energy resource on the grid. As virtual power plants scale beyond pilots, the next major challenge is incorporating EVs—mobile assets that are user-dependent and inconsistently connected, yet capable of supplying gigawatts of flexible capacity. Today’s technical standards, market rules, and utility programs still lag behind this potential. This session brings together automakers, charge point operators, and policymakers to explore what it will take to make EVs a reliable component of VPPs and DER aggregation markets. Panelists will discuss the barriers—from interoperability and bidirectional hardware to interconnection and data access—and highlight emerging models for managed charging and V2G programs that reward drivers while strengthening grid reliability.
