Alan Bailey serves as the Midwest Solar Specialist for American Farmland Trust, bringing over 25 years of experience in agriculture and conservation to his role. Based in Central Illinois, Alan leads AFT’s Smart Solar Strategy in the Midwest region, focusing on research, methods, resource creation, and direct outreach. He works to educate farmers, landowners, solar developers, and policymakers about the critical importance of protecting farmland, enhancing farm viability, and advancing solar energy. With a deep background in row-crop farming, conservation practices and water quality, Alan is particularly passionate about agrivoltaics and the increased potential for diversified ag production and long-term success for farmers, especially new and beginning farmers. Currently he heads a 25-acre agrivoltaics demo plot in southern Illinois and addresses key challenges in solar development and agriculture throughout the Midwest. Alan’s hands-on and practical expertise makes him a valuable voice for integrating renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.
