New York City will install the largest municipal curbside EV charging project in the U.S. with help from a $15 million federal grant from the Department of Transportationās Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program.Ā
According to Cities Today, the funding will also support the construction of 32 solar-powered charging ports at eight NYC Department of Parks and Recreation locations.Ā
The city plans to install 600 Level 2 chargers on streets in all five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. More than half will be designated for disadvantaged and low-income neighborhoods.Ā
Developed in partnership with Con Edison, the project builds on the cityās EV charging pilot, PlugNYC, which has led to the installation of 100 Level 2 charging ports since its inception in June 2021.Ā
