bp’s global EV charging business, bp pulse, has opened its newest charging hub, located near the Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).
The hub, which is part of the company’s broader strategy to build a national EV charging network, aims to provide rideshare and local EV drivers with fast and convenient charging options when they’re on the go.
Featuring 40 ultrafast EV charging bays with 400kW and 150kW DC fast chargers, as well as CCS and NACS connectors, the site also includes a covered canopy and free Wi-Fi. These amenities complement those offered at the adjacent bp gas station: a convenience store, coffee shop, and restaurants.
bp pulse hosted a ribbon cutting event to celebrate the opening, featuring remarks from bp leadership, local officials, and partners. Additionally, the company hosted an EV driver event on December 18 to provide drivers with a limited-time opportunity to charge their vehicles for just 1 cent per kWh.
“Opening our sixth major airport hub is a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding our EV charging network across the United States,” said Sujay Sharma, CEO of bp pulse Americas, in a statement. “By strategically placing our hubs in high-demand locations like airports, we’re making it easier for drivers to access the fast and reliable charging they need. Locating this hub next to a bp retail site also means EV drivers can benefit from the convenient amenities already offered to customers today.”
ComEd partially funded the hub with a $500,000 rebate through its Make Ready Rebate program. It is one of three EV rebate programs currently available to ComEd customers that provides businesses and public sector entities with the financial support to install EV charging stations in its service territory.
ComEd President and CEO Gil Quiniones, added, “We understand that cost and charging access are two of the largest barriers for EV adoption, and ComEd is proud to power the expansion of publicly available charging at sites across northern Illinois, backed by our industry leading reliable grid and EV rebates that help offset the costs so that more customers and communities can move toward their EV goals.”
