Global technology leader ABB announced the launch of its new Battery Energy Storage Systems-as-a-Service (BESS-as-a-Service), a flexible solution to support the clean energy transition that requires no upfront capital investment.
BESS-as-a-Service is the first of many emerging next-gen service models that are designed to break down clean technology adoption barriers and help companies reach their renewable energy goals.
The solution enables companies spanning various industries to reap the benefits of advanced energy storage, for a quarterly service fee. The turnkey solution includes hardware, software, and lifecycle support; ABB manages deployment, maintenance, and optimization.
ABB is performing feasibility assessments with prospective customers prior to deployment. As a prerequisite for installation, the evaluation will ensure customers can reap the financial benefits from utilizing BESS-as-a-Service.
“By shifting from capital expenditure to a more predictable operational expenditure approach, ABB’s BESS-as-a-Service enables businesses to immediately strengthen their energy security, slash peak demand charges, and generate new revenue streams,” said Stuart Thompson, Division President at ABB’s Electrification Service Division, in a statement. “We see BESS-as-a-Service as not just a new offering but a strategic lever for the division’s growth and innovation. We see significant potential to scale this globally, especially as more industries seek flexible, low-risk pathways to decarbonization.”
