Humboldt County’s First Large-Scale Solar + Storage Project Comes Online

Renewable America recently celebrated the opening of the Foster Clean Power portfolio installationa pair of projects totaling 9.4 MWdc of solar capacity and 2.5 MW/10 MWh of storage.

The project is Humboldt County, California’s first new-build large-scale solar and storage project under a power purchase agreement with Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA), with the ability to power over 3,000 homes.

The portfolio, owned by Radial Power, consists of Foster Clean Power A (4.457 MWdc) and Foster Clean Power B (4.951 MWdc), with both systems providing a pollinator-friendly habitat for native wildlife.

The projects faced numerous challenges early in development, including outdated public records with incorrect water and utility easements encroaching on the planned site and access road. By partnering with Humboldt Water, Renewable America was able to mobilize survey teams and remap boundaries, adjusting the project layout and road design accordingly.

As a result, the company reduced road construction costs by 75% and sped up the production timeline by six weeks.

“This project is an example of how careful planning and collaboration can overcome unexpected hurdles without compromising cost or schedule,” said Ardi Arian, President and CEO of Renewable America, in a statement. “We’re proud to deliver a solar and storage portfolio that strengthens local energy reliability while supporting California’s clean energy goals.”
