Prysmian recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of a $63.8 million expansion at its Du Quoin, Illinois plant, coinciding with the facility’s 60th anniversary celebration.
Prysmian’s facility manufactures custom CL Advantage medium collection cables, designed to conserve energy by minimizing line loss during transmission. The cables, a key component of underground substation and distribution systems, are utilized in wind and solar energy projects.
The company’s investment in the facility expansion has boosted renewable cable production in Illinois, helping meet the growing demand for high-performance cables used in clean energy and EV infrastructure. The project also modernized the building with the addition of an Energy Management System.
A new solar farm was part of the project buildout, which will produce approximately 50 percent of the power needed for the plant.
“This investment in our Du Quoin facility reaffirms our longstanding commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the Southern Illinois community that has supported us for six decades,” said Andrea Pirondini, CEO of Prysmian North America, in a statement. “These brand new lines position us to meet the urgent needs of utilities, grid-hardening initiatives, and the rapidly growing AI and data-center economy.”
The expansion was completed in partnership with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and supported by the state’s Reimagining Energy and Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois) initiative, which was designed to strengthen the state’s leadership in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and EV innovation.
David Perez, EVP and COO of ComEd, added, “Delivering some of the nation’s most reliable service to over 9 million people across northern Illinois reflects our ongoing investments in infrastructure and our strong partnerships with local manufacturers like Prysmian.”
