NextStar Energy has produced 10 million battery cells at its Windsor, Ontario, plant, a milestone reached less than a year after commercial production began in November 2025.
The company describes the facility as Canada’s first and only commercial-scale battery manufacturing site.
NextStar says each cell is made using specialized processes, advanced automation, and multistage quality verification intended to meet international performance and reliability standards.
The plant’s output is supported by a workforce of about 1,300 employees, and NextStar is targeting 2,500 jobs at full capacity. The company has invested more than $5 billion CAD to date, which it says reinforces its long-term commitment to growth, innovation, and Canadian manufacturing jobs.
“Canada has an opportunity to be a leader in the rapidly growing energy storage sector, and NextStar Energy is leading the charge,” said Danies Lee, CEO of NextStar Energy, in a statement. “Producing 10 million battery cells demonstrates that we have the people, the capability, and the vision to compete on a global scale.
NextStar frames the milestone as part of a broader effort to build a domestic Canadian battery supply chain at a time when demand for energy storage is accelerating across North America.
