Qcells Launches Domestic Content Residential BESS

Qcells has announced a collaboration with Jabil, a global manufacturing solutions provider, to offer its first domestically assembled residential battery energy storage system (BESS) to the U.S. market.

Assembled at Jabil’s Auburn Hills, Michigan facility, the Q.HOME CORE G3 is a domestic content eligible residential BESS that is now commercially available and ready to ship nationwide.

The $11.6 million investment in Michigan builds on an existing collaboration between Qcells and Jabil to assemble Qcells microinverters in the state, bringing the total investment in residential solar+storage manufacturing in Michigan to $17 million.

“Teaming up with Jabil to launch the domestic content version of the Q.HOME CORE G3 battery system marks a significant milestone for Qcells, as we accelerate our efforts to create an integrated domestic solar-plus-storage supply chain,” said Il Hyeong No, head of Qcells North America’s Residential Business, in a statement.

The Q.HOME CORE G3 pairs seamlessly with Qcells’ AC module products assembled in Georgia, creating a cohesive AC-coupled system designed to maximize performance, simplify installation, and reduce energy bills for homeowners.

The system’s domestic content eligibility can help unlock the domestic content adder bonus for eligible projects.

Its “Grid Support” configuration allows homeowners to charge the battery with excess daytime solar or off-peak utility power and dispatch stored energy during peak rate periods in the evening. Homeowners can also add battery backup capabilities for additional grid resilience.
