Ameresco, Community College of Philadelphia Launch Solar for Schools-Funded Rooftop Installation

Ameresco has finalized a contract to construct rooftop solar arrays at the Community College of Philadelphia’s (CCP) main campus and Northeast regional campus.

Construction will begin this summer with completion expected by the end of the year.

According to Energies Media, the project is backed by Pennsylvania’s Solar for Schools grant program, which provided the financial support needed to move the installation from the planning stage.

Ameresco’s budget-neutral financing model, which includes Energy Savings Performance Contracts, Power Purchase Agreements, and Energy as a Service structures, helped make the economics feasible for the college without requiring large upfront capital investment.

“This project is an important step in our work to build a more sustainable and resilient campus for our students and the broader community,” said Tim Trzaska, Director of Construction Management at CCP. “As the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania continues to invest in renewable energy, we’re proud to partner with Ameresco to contribute to that progress.”

Once operational, the arrays will generate on-site renewable electricity at both campuses, reducing CCP’s dependence on the grid and improving energy resilience for an institution serving thousands of students.

The solar installations are also intended to serve as hands-on learning resources, giving students in technical and trades programs direct exposure to operational photovoltaic systems.
