ES Foundry has announced the completion of a 2-gigawatt (GW) expansion at its Greenwood, South Carolina factory, bringing the company’s total annual solar cell manufacturing capacity to 3GW.
The first solar cell has already come off the new production line.
ES Foundry’s Greenwood facility produces crystalline bifacial PERC solar cells designed to support a broad range of applications, from utility-scale projects to distributed generation systems.
The expansion also advances customers’ domestic content strategies under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, supporting module manufacturers, developers, independent power producers, asset owners, and tax equity partners navigating increasingly complex procurement and compliance requirements, including Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC) restrictions.
“The U.S. solar market does not need more announcements — it needs operating capacity, proven production and domestic suppliers that can support customers now,” said Alex Zhu, CEO of ES Foundry, in a statement. “With our 2 GW expansion complete, our total capacity now at 3 GW and the first cell off the new line, ES Foundry is helping close one of the most critical gaps in the U.S. solar supply chain.”
The Greenwood facility has now hired more than 400 people since launching operations in January 2025, creating advanced manufacturing jobs and supporting workforce development across Greenwood County.
Zhu continued, “Customers are looking for manufacturing partners that can do more than promise capacity. They need partners that can produce, document and deliver. This expansion strengthens our ability to support customers at scale while helping build a more resilient and competitive U.S. solar supply chain.”
