Washington State’s Grant Public Utility District (PUD) has received $250,000 in grants from the state departments of Ecology and Commerce to fund the installation of both public-facing and fleet-only EV charging infrastructure.
The Washington State Department of Ecology’s “Charge Where You Are” grant contributes $100,000 toward the installation of 10 Level 2, 19.2 kilowatt (kW) public charging stations at Grant PUD’s future Ephrata Service Center, currently under construction, with completion expected in early 2028.
According to American Public Power Association, the Department of Commerce’s “Washington Electric Vehicle Charging Program” grant covers $150,000 for 12 fleet-only EV chargers to be installed across three Grant PUD facilities by year’s end, including six at the utility’s Ephrata Headquarters, two at its Ephrata Annex building, and four at its Hydro Office Building near Wanapum Dam.
The Commerce grant is part of $37.3 million allocated statewide for fleet EV charging, funded by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act (CCA). Grant PUD will use up to $1.2 million from the sale of state-awarded CCA clean-energy allowances to cover the remaining installation costs.
“These chargers will be an added convenience for our customers and for our own, growing fleet of electric vehicles,” said Fallon Long, Grant PUD’s Vice President of Shared Services. “They’ll help ensure our buildings comply with relevant state codes for EV charging.”
Both installations are required to comply with Washington’s Transportation Electrification Strategy, which mandates that newly constructed, publicly accessible buildings designate a portion of their parking areas for EV charging.
